SNOW & TERRAIN

Slider

When it comes to snow and terrain, we in the Selkirks have a rare home court advantage.

Simply put, we supply the lightest, fluffiest, most consistent stimulant on earth: Kootenay powder!

Annual accumulations can amount to 7m (23 ft) at tree line with 9m (30 ft) at higher elevations, offering remarkably deep powder skiing. This reliable snowfall often begins in October, serving up early season turns in December and fresh powder well into April. Our elevation (up to 8000ft) and favorable local temperatures (minus 8 - 12 celcius) keep our snow fluffy and light late well into the end of March.

We offer such a variety of unique terrain that even the most well-traveled skiers and riders find it hard to compare with any place they've been before.

In the words of ski journalise Les Anthony:

"There are the trademark Valhalla pencil couloirs, chutes, spines, and open bowls rolling downward into rising forests that are so roomy they seem almost cultivated. Then there’s the Cat’s Meow — a section of super-deep

tree chutes weaving in and out of glades straddling a shallow natural half pipe. It’s 3,000 vertical feet of serious disbelief...and the trees, which hoard foot after foot of powder for the skier lucky enough to visit them, serve up face shot after face shot, sheltering walls of white below a roof of branches."

Our two piston bully snowcats drive right into the alpine accessing over 21,000 acres of consistent, uninterrupted fall line skiing. This allows us to ski off any aspect of each mountain, and enables us to choose to best lines and snow quality each day.

We are excited for you to come and try Valhalla Powdercats, and find out why our alumni guests keep coming back for more!
